Yes, it is time for the annual National Clap-a-thon otherwise known as the President’s State of the Union speech before Congress. This has to be the worst piece of political self-pleasuring ever created (the presidential nominating conventions can occasionally have some entertainment value). The last SOTU I watched was the 2002 speech because there was likely to be something of import, and before that it would have to be midway through the Clinton years. There really isn’t anything worse than listening to people try far too hard to be profound when they are really nothing but a hack.
What is worse is that this vermin is spreading. We now have the Governor’s State of the State, and the Mayor’s State of the City. Can’t these people just issue a real report and have their bizarre clapping orgies in private?
